A prettier wrong fish is a failed fish
Still Tide makes natural-history art of the fish Florida anglers love, and holds every specimen to the standard a guide or an ichthyologist would use: if you covered the label, would they still know the fish?
Real references first
Every species starts with at least three photographs of an adult fish (side profile, colour and the diagnostic features), plus authoritative sources such as FWC, NOAA and museum collections. Old engravings are never used as a model; they drew flat fish.
Checked fin by fin
Each candidate is compared with its references feature by feature: body depth, head profile, mouth, fin placement, tail, scutes, spots and stripes. Look-alikes get special scrutiny, so an African pompano must never drift toward a permit, and a red grouper never borrows a black grouper's pattern.
Locked, then composed
Once approved, a specimen is locked and never redrawn. Plates, prints, plates for the table and your personalised lettering are all composed around the approved fish by code, so the animal on your wall is exactly the one that passed.
