How to tell it apart

Not to be confused with: Fat snook and tarpon snook

Common snook is long and slender, with a bold black lateral line running out through the tail. Fat snook is deeper and squarer in the body and much smaller; tarpon snook has an upturned lower jaw and pelvic fins that reach past the vent.
