This specimen passed a feature-by-feature check against real photographs of adult fish:
- Body and fins completely unspotted
- Pale straw-yellow back fading to silvery sides and a white belly
- Long, pointed head with a large mouth and slightly projecting lower jaw
- Faint dusky area at the base of the pectoral fin
- Pale to yellowish fins; no chin barbel and no tail eyespot

How to tell it apart
Not to be confused with: Spotted seatrout
Spotted seatrout carry round black spots over the back, soft dorsal and tail. The sand seatrout is plain.
Not to be confused with: Weakfish
Weakfish have oblique rows of small dark speckles on the upper sides.
