How to tell it apart

Not to be confused with: Mangrove snapper

Mangrove snapper has no black spot and no blue lines on the face. The mutton has a single black spot below the rear dorsal and blue lines under the eye.

Not to be confused with: Lane snapper

Lane snapper also has a black spot, but it is much smaller, with pink and yellow stripes along its sides.
