How to tell it apart
Not to be confused with: Vermilion snapper
Vermilion snapper is slimmer and more orange, with short blue lines on the upper sides and fine yellow lines below. Red snapper is deeper and evenly rose-red, with a red eye.
Not to be confused with: Mutton and lane snapper
Mutton and lane snappers carry a black spot on the side. An adult red snapper has none.
